Experienced drivers are safer drivers – so Victoria’s new Graduated Licensing System requires that if you are under 21, you must log a minimum of 120 hours before you can apply for your probationary licence. Drive it, book it!You’ll receive an official VicRoads Learner Log Book when you are issued with your learner permit. Every driving session must be entered in the logbook and must be signed by you and your supervising driver or instructor. Logbooks will be checked by VicRoads prior to the probationary licence test. Each year in Victoria crashes involving 18 to 25 year olds kill approximately 120 people and seriously injure 2,300. This is about one third of the Victorian road toll. Young drivers have a higher risk of crashing because they don't get enough driving practice before they get their licence. Research has indicated that learners with 120 hours of supervised practice are far less likely to crash in their first two years of driving on their Ps than learners with much less experience.
For learner drivers 21 or older, there is no need to log 120 hours or supervised driving experience.
